So yesterday while I was feeding Hunter, Ella said she needed to use the bathroom. No big deal, Ella can go to the bathroom on her own now, so I did not think much about it. Well about 15 minutes later I noticed that it was very quiet and that she was still in the bathroom. So I decided to check on her at see what she is up to. When I saw her she was covered in her play lip gloss, and she had some brushes out. Okay I think, not too bad, but then I notice that the tube of toothpaste that I just opened that morning was completely gone! I asked her in a very loud voice, "Did you eat all of the toothpaste?" and she said, "yeah mama". So I repeated my question a few more times just to make sure that she really ate all of the toothpaste. Well I decided that I should probably call the doctor and make sure that she was not in any danger. So strangely, my doctor's office does not answer, there is no voicemail, message service, or anything! So then I decide to call our old doctor from Alamo, thinking at least I could talk to the advice nurse... voicemail! Hello where are all of the doctors? It is 3:00 on a Wednesday! Anyway I get a hold of Mike who gets a hold of a pediatric dentist and I tell him what has happened. He asks me if there is any fluoride in this toothpaste, so I read the bottle and find out that there is no fluoride in this toothpaste, which he responds, "You are very lucky".
He then explains that had there been fluoride, we would have a very different problem and we would have had to go right to the emergency room.
Well Ella is fine and she did not get sick or anything, so we are very lucky, but for anyone that has a child that might possibly want to eat toothpaste, make sure that it does not have any fluoride in it, or at the very least keep it away from the kids (we moved ours up high... very high).
