Gwendolyn's Birthday!

Early Sunday morning I woke up having light contractions and even though I like to wait until I know labor is really progressing, I decided that since this was my 4th baby, I should not wait too long before getting to the hospital. So I woke Mike and my mom up around 3 a.m. and let them know it was time to get going.

Once they checked me in and examined me, the nurse told me that I was dilated to about 5cm and my contractions were 5 minutes apart. They moved me to the delivery room and I got the epidural right away. It was nice to get the epidural so early on because I felt almost zero pain during the whole labor and delivery and I was relaxed enough that I slept through most of my contractions.

Labor was much slower this time around and I was surprised that I was not moving along faster. At about 7 a.m. the doctor broke my water and told me that this should speed things up. Even though I couldn't feel anything, I was confident that the baby would be arriving anytime.

At about 10 a.m. the nurse checked me and told me I was fully dilated and it was time to call in the doctor. A few minutes later my doctor came in dressed in his Sunday best (yes he literally came from church to deliver the baby) and told me it was time to push.

One push later and Gwen came screaming into the world. She was not happy to leave her warm little home, but I was ecstatic to hear such a healthy loud cry!

Everything went perfectly and I was so happy to finally have her here.

Yes epidurals as soon as possible make life FABULOUS!!! That is how it was for me too and I don't think I will ever wait. Epidurals just bring so much calmness and serenity. So glad little Gwenny Bear was such an easy healthy happy birth!!

Oh and she and her cousin share being born on the 4th! It's a great day, seriously I know other moms whose babies were born on the 4th and I think it means something! ;-)
